Santarcangelo
What to do, what to see, how to live it to the fullest
An ancient medieval village made up of narrow streets, small squares and noble palaces, wrapped in an authentic and welcoming atmosphere: this is Santarcangelo di Romagna , nestled on Colle Giove, a few steps from the sea and rich in art, history, culture and places of interest unmissable.
Let's discover them together!
NOT TO BE MISSED
Ganganelli Square
Dedicated to Lorenzo Ganganelli, elected pope under the name of Clement XIV, it is surmounted by the arch of the same name and embellished by the Fontana della Pigna, created from an idea by Tonino Guerra and a symbol of women and fertility.
Malatesta Fortress
Built as the residence of the Malatesta family, today it is a private residence, but can still be visited every Sunday of the month.
It is accessed from a bridge over the moat, and you can admire the elegant rooms and the lush garden that embraces the castle.
The most interesting thing is the climb to the keep via a spiral staircase, which allows you to walk along the walkway and admire an amazing panorama that ranges from Rimini to the hinterland, up to San Marino and Monte Carpegna.
The Bell
It is impossible not to notice this very high tower, the "Campanone" for the inhabitants.
25 meters high, together with the Ganganelli Arch, it is one of the symbolic places of the city.
PRO TIP : under the tower, there is a FOTONICA piadineria where the people of Santarcangelo go when they want to be pampered. Absolutely worth trying
The Way of Love
What a romantic air you can breathe here in Santarcangelo!
And there is an alley that is the emblem of this romanticism: the Via dell'Amore (or, simply Vicolo Amaduzzi).
Brightly colored houses mix with breathtaking panoramic views and the view extends to the sea and the most distant horizons.
The caves
Santarcangelo hides a mysterious underground history, where cavities, wells, tunnels and galleries constitute another city beneath the visible one, made up of 160 caves.
Don't miss the guided tour inside the monumental public cave: a real journey back in time, to discover ancient legends and compelling stories.
